Let's talk about the Mother of the Bride for a second… It is no secret that our Mum’s want to look their best on our big day and make sure they are looking and feeling the part. And we believe we may just be able to help. So pass over the screen and let them have a read!

One of our designers, House of Mooshki not only delivers gorgeous, truly unique bridal gowns but also a just as stunning Mother of the Bride/ Occasion collection. Now these dresses certainly aren’t just your average dresses, which is to be expected with Mooshki, they are bold, colourful and nothing short of chic.

The Facts:

• House of Mooshki take up to 12 weeks to come, so make sure you are shopping with plenty of time.

• See a style you like but prefer another colour or print? Not a problem, just like with their bridal gowns, you have so many options. We can work with Mooshki to create the prefect dress for you.

• Their prices range from £700- £1800. Extra charges may apply with design changes or fabric changes.

• All the dresses are boned and most with an internal bar strap for extra support.

So how does it work, you ask? As we clearly don’t stock Mother of the Bride.

• First stop, have a browse of the House of Mooshki website (link below) at all the gorgeous dresses and see if you are Mooshki Mum! https://www.houseofmooshki.com/occasion-wear/

• Secondly, either get in touch with Mooshki themselves or us to express your interests and let us know what dresses are catching your eye. We will then work with Mooshki to get the dresses lent out to us for you to try in our boutique in Tenterden, Kent. Our loan appointments whether it be Mother of the Bride or Bridal have a non-refundable fee of £30.

• In your appointment, you will be able to try the samples of the dresses you picked. If you fall in love with one of the dresses and decide to go ahead, we will take your measurements and order a dress in closer to your size. Like most occasion dresses, you may need a few alterations to make sure it’s the perfect fit.

• Once your dress is ready you are welcome to come back and collect it from the boutique, however we are aware that some of you ladies travel quite far, if so Mooshki and ourselves will work together to have it delivered straight to your front door.

• And Finally, send us lots of photos of you looking stunning on the big day!!

The Ring that says 'I Do'

So for those of you that may not know, we are also ring agents for local company, Bespoke Wedding Rings London and can help you and your partner find the perfect rings to say ‘I Do’ with.

How does it work?

• As agents, we have a large selection of display rings and all the equipment we need to help you choose and design your truly bespoke rings. So in the comfort of our beautiful boutique we can sit and pull together all the information to pass on to Philip who will be able to quote and sort out all the ‘boring’ bits as we like to say, (just don’t tell him!!).

With BWR the world really is your oyster, with the ability to engrave and laser cut any design or create a band to fit your engagement ring it means you can create something that is truly yours. Philip quite often says that he loves the fact he rarely does two sets of rings the same.

What precious metal do they work in?

• BWR work with Sliver, Gold, White Gold, Rose Gold, Platinum and Palladium and use a variety of precious stones including Diamonds to embellish your ring.

How much do they start from?

• Pricing is quite a difficult to give an exact price as it very much dependent on the price of precious metals at the time of purchase. So this is something that we can look at in your appointment and with Philip. He will always offer alternative design ideas to help bring it into your price bracket if needed.

'When should I be shopping?'

So the main question we get asked when we first speak to brides, whether that be at fairs or on Instagram is ‘when should I be shopping for my dress?’ And the truth of it is, when you are ready! Our recommendation would be to give yourself at least a year and there are some key factors that you do need to keep in you in mind.

• Run times!

• Alteration time!

• And actually shopping for your dress!

With these 3 very important things in mind, our advice is always to give yourself a year. To help this make a little more sense, let us break this down.

1. Runtimes:

So our runtimes at Vicki’s are anything from 12-16 weeks for a standard order, depending on the designer. Why so long? You ask. This is because wedding dresses are made to order. Kelsey Rose and Ellis will sometimes have stock ready for immediate delivery, but this is on a very limited selection. Nieve Couture and House of Mooshki do offer rush cuts but this does come at an extra cost and can make the process feel a little more stressful.

2. Alterations:

We have a selection of very talented recommended seamstresses for you to book in with once you have your dress, but something to bear in mind is that our ladies like you on their books at least 8-10 weeks before your wedding. Especially through the summer months, these fairy godmothers of the bridal world are very busy and they want to make sure they have plenty of time to work their magic on your dress.

3. Actually Shopping for Your Dress:

This is the part every bride overlooks, just think how long it takes to get everyone organised for drinks on a Friday night!! Now imagine having to do this several times in the space of a couple of months but on a Saturday daytime!! Between works schedules, distance, family life and anything else we all have going on. Bringing your Bridal party together can be as tricky as the dreaded seating plan! So give yourself time to enjoy your shopping with your bridal party without the ticking clock.

The long and short of it is, it is never too early to order your dream dress but it can be too late! So if you're a 2023 bride get shopping and enjoy the experience stress-free or even if you are 2024 bride who is hot on your wedding planning and ready to shop, go for it! You won’t be the first 2024 bride to get their dress sorted, and then you can sit back and relax.
